From SeafoodMedia on December 9th, the Japanese saury fishing season has ended, and last year’s catch was the lowest ever
    .
From the end of July to November this year, the catch of saury was 16,643 tons, a decrease of 36% year-on-year.
The catch in July was zero.
In the four months from August to November, the catch was less than the expected 20,000 Tons
    .

As of mid-December, saury was mainly operated by stick net fishing.
The number of saury caught in the past few years was 1,723 tons in 2018, 2,802 tons in 2019, and 2,369 tons in 2020
    .

In 2009, the catch of saury was 300,000 tons.
By 2014, it was not uncommon to exceed 200,000 tons.
Today's catch is about one-tenth of what it was 7 years ago
    .

This year, the number of bluefin tuna caught in Japan was 11,700 tons, and the number of cultivated bluefin tuna was 18,500 tons, and the cumulative output was 30,200 tons.
Since saury is not farmed in Japan, the output is lower than that of bluefin tuna
    .

Japan imported about 22,000 tons of frozen farmed bluefin tuna slices.
In 2019, about 6,400 tons of frozen saury were imported and 3,400 tons in 2020
