Recently, Chiyoda Chemical Construction, Tokyo Electric Power Company and JERA (a joint venture company of Tokyo Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Company) announced that they have started a joint research and development project of ammonia synthesis catalyst to support the establishment of fuel ammonia supply chain

The parties stated that the main purpose of the initiative is to develop Japan's independent ammonia synthesis technology based on the development of innovative catalysts, to improve the utilization rate of ammonia by reducing production costs, and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants

All parties expect that the project will focus on the development of competitive catalysts from 2021 to 2024; from 2025 to the first half of 2027, bench tests and performance evaluations of the selected catalysts will be carried out; from the second half of 2027 to the end of 2030, catalysts will be carried out Pilot test and industrialization
