ExxonMobil expands renewable fuel agreements with global clean energy companies
On April 23, ExxonMobil and Global Clean Energy have expanded their five-year agreement to increase their purchases of renewable diesel to 5 million barrels per year
.
ExxonMobil will be the exclusive buyer of renewable diesel at the biorefinery in Bakersfield, California, which is scheduled to begin production
in early 2022.
Renewable diesel utilizes Global Clean Energy's patented camellia oil crop, which significantly reduces life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions
.
The Bakersfield biorefinery will process up to 15,000 barrels of renewable feedstock per day, including Camellia,
proprietary to clean energy companies worldwide.
The rest of the renewable diesel will be produced using a variety of non-petroleum feedstocks, including used cooking oil, soybean oil, corn oil from distillers, and other renewable resources
.
Once production starts, ExxonMobil plans to distribute renewable diesel
in California and other potential U.
S.
and international markets.
