The U.
S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently proposed the first draft federal regulation aimed at cutting methane emissions from the domestic oil and gas industry, part of
U.
S.
President Barack Obama's efforts to tackle climate issues.
Relevant people said that the draft emission reduction plan proposed by the EPA aims to reduce methane emissions from the domestic oil and gas industry in the United States by 40%~45%
in the next 10 years compared with 2012 levels.
The EPA also revealed earlier this year what it wanted to achieve when it first announced its emissions reduction plan
.
The move is part of
a regulatory effort Mr.
Obama has worked to advance.
Right now, Obama is grappling with climate change and wants to make it a legacy
of his presidency.
Earlier in August, the EPA unveiled final regulations on carbon reduction: by 2030, power plants will reduce carbon emissions by 32%
compared to 2005 levels.
