The European Commission has recently approved the registration of calcium hydroxide as a "basic substance" in accordance with the EU Plant Protection Product Registration Regulation (1107/2009).

Registration will be effective from July 1, 2015 and will be valid
permanently.
In September 2012, the European Union received an application from the European Group International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) to approve calcium hydroxide as a fungicide for pear fruits
