BASF participates in the development of the TfS Product Carbon Footprint Guidelines
Recently, the Global Initiative "Together for Sustainable Development" (TfS) published the Product Carbon Footprint Guide for the value chain of the chemical industry, and 37 TfS member companies, including BASF, agreed on global standards for calculating the carbon footprint of their products
.
As one of the co-initiators of TfS, BASF is fully involved in the development of the TfS Product Carbon Footprint Guidelines
.
The TfS Product Carbon Footprint Guidelines provide specific instructions
for calculating the cradle-to-gate emissions of chemicals.
It unifies the calculation of the carbon footprint of products across the industry and is applicable to the vast majority of chemical products
.
In the future, for companies that use chemicals and the wider market, the guide will help them more intuitively compare and assess the impact of
their products on climate change.
Dr.
Christoph J kel, Vice President Corporate Sustainability at BASF, said: "We are proud
that BASF has contributed to the development of this guideline through pioneering work over the past few years in product carbon footprint calculation and methodology.
This industry-wide agreement, which includes TfS members, enables the world's leading chemical and process industry manufacturers to significantly reduce comparable limits on the carbon footprint of their products, thereby leveling the playing field in the chemical industry
.
”
As part of its commitment to standardize its methods, BASF is committed to contributing to the further development of the TfS initiative and will fully align
its own product carbon footprint calculation methods with published TfS industry standards.
At the same time, BASF's pioneering digital solution for automating the calculation of the carbon footprint of products has been introduced to the market through the ecosystem of partners and will reference the calculation principles of TfS
.
