JGC was awarded the contract for the refinery upgrade project in Iraq
JGC Corporation, a Japan-based global engineering firm, said it had received a contract
from Iraq to upgrade a large Basra refinery.
The engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract, valued at 400 billion yen ($3.

The contract includes the installation of a 34,500 b/d fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit, a 55,000 b/d vacuum distillation unit and a 40,000 b/d diesel desulfurization unit, increasing gasoline and diesel production to 19,000 b/d and 36,000 b/d
.
The project is expected to be completed
in 2025.
The project will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency's Development Assistance Loan from the Government of Japan, the largest reconstruction assistance
provided by Japan since the 2003 Iraq war.
