The Dow Company
The company will expand its MA production capacity in the U.
S
Recently, Dow (Dow) will invest in the expansion of 50,000 tons/year of methyl acrylate (MA) production capacity
on the US Gulf Coast.
The new production capacity will be located in St.
Charles, Louisiana, and is scheduled to start operations in the first half of 2022, with a focus on meeting the needs of the North American market
.
Dow said that once the project is operational, Dow's business in St.
Charles will be focused on the production of
methyl acrylate (MA) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA).
The production of ethyl acrylate (EA) will be fully supported
by its site in Deer Park, Texas.
Jim Knaub, global business director for functional monomers and plastic additives at Dow, said MA is a key
component in a wide range of applications, from water treatment and thermoplastic products to inks, resins and packaging materials.
Currently, Dow owns and operates an MA unit in La Cangrejera, Mexico, with a capacity similar to the planned new plant, with products for the U.
S.
market
.
According to IHS Markit's global monthly market report for acrylic and SAP polymers, most of the methyl acrylate production in North America has been in a state of force majeure in recent months, and demand for acrylates has continued to increase and supply is tight
