AkzoNobel's shipping software Intertrac is launched
AkzoNobel has launched Intertrac, the shipping industry's first innovative digital tool, to help ship operators accurately assess and predict hull fouling risks
based on route information.
Currently, the software is under
patent application.
Developed by AkzoNobel's Marine Coatings business unit, Intertrac software analyzes various data streams to generate fouling risk reports that can be tailored to a vessel's specific route, helping ship operators maximize operational efficiency and reduce costs
.
The software divides the world's oceans and offshore waters into 64 "large marine ecosystems," each with its own fouling risks and characteristics, including salinity, temperature, thermal zones, seasonality and regular pH.
Route information is obtained through data provided by the Automatic Vessel Identification System, which is available
in the public domain.
This allows shipowners to get an overview of their ship's operations and quantify the risk
of fouling that a particular vessel will encounter during its operation.
After months of operational testing, Intertrac software gained the favor of a major oil shipping company that required a fouling risk assessment
of vessels across its entire fleet.
