Sweden intends to limit lead in consumer products
Sweden intends to limit lead in consumer productsRecently, Sweden proposed to limit the amount of lead in items that can be put in the mouth of young children, such as clothing, footwear, accessories, furniture, decorations, sports and leisure goods, etc
.
Lead is commonly found in alloys, dyes, and occasionally as a stabilizer in plastics
.
Lead exposure can damage the nervous system and affect intellectual and behavioral development
.
Fetuses and young children are particularly vulnerable to lead
.
Other effects include hypertension and increased incidence
of cardiovascular disease in adults.
In response, the European Chemicals Agency invited stakeholders to comment on the proposal
.
Comments must be submitted no later than 1 June 2013 and the final outcome
will be obtained on 21 September 2013.
