Iran has reportedly officially opened its largest wind farm, marking a turning point
in its procurement of electricity from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydropower.
Located in Tarom County in northern Iran, the wind farm project has 18 turbine turbines with a nominal capacity to generate 61 MWh of electricity
per year.
The Tarom Sofla wind farm, which uses the world's latest technology, is expected to be built within a year at a cost of 86 million euros
, according to the Iranian News Agency.
When completed, it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 110,000 metric tons per year

Iran has the most comprehensive renewable energy program in the Middle East and is embarking on streamlining the country's energy mix

At present, more than 250 companies in the country have signed agreements to increase and sell about 5,000 MW of new renewable energy projects
