Every year, the Ministry of Food and Drug Affairs of Korea formulates and operates a customs clearance inspection plan for imported foods by analyzing import trends, test and inspection
results, domestic and foreign risk information, and categories of concern to Korean citizens, and selects inspection targets and items that require safety management.

On January 11, 2023, in order to strengthen food safety and quality management, the Ministry of Food and Drug of Korea formulated the "2023 Customs Clearance Inspection Plan for Imported Food", while strengthening safety management, operating an effective inspection system, promoting fast customs clearance, and improving the customs clearance inspection system
    for imported food.

The main contents of this import food clearance inspection plan include:

    (1) (Food and other fields) Expand the planned inspection of imported categories in different seasons and periods, and strengthen the inspection
of pesticides in agricultural products (simple processed products).

    (2) (In the field of animal products), strengthen the inspection
of veterinary drugs and foreign bodies of livestock products.

    (3) (Aquatic products) Check whether aquatic products are illegally gained, false declarations are made, and the inspection of veterinary drugs is strengthened
    .

    1.
    Food/agricultural products/food contact materials

We will carry out planned inspections (in addition to daily customs clearance inspections, centralized inspections of foods with increased demand at specific times) for festivals such as Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, Korean Family Month, spring ingredients (sea bass), summer three-volt days, pickled kimchi season, etc.
, so that safe products can be imported and distributed
    .

Expand the proportion of random sampling inspections of foods mainly consumed by infants, children, and the elderly in the healthy and vulnerable class (e.
    g.
, double that of ordinary foods), and carry out planned inspections
of food contact materials such as feeding bottles, complementary food tableware, and juice filters used by infants and young children.

In terms of agricultural products, the scope of pesticide residue inspection will be expanded to categories with an increase in the failure rate since the implementation of the positive list system in 2019 (such as peppers, carrots, etc.
), simple processed agricultural products such as chili powder and processed fruits and vegetables (100% raw materials are agricultural products), and the licensed pesticides are tested according to the standard, and other pesticides without permission are uniformly managed to 0.
01 mg/kg (PLS positive list system: Positive List System).

    2.
    Livestock products

In order to stabilize the demand for eggs caused by the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Korea, we check the health certificate of the exporting country and the eggshell label of edible eggs (eggs) produced in Spain and other countries that began emergency import on January 10, 2023, and check veterinary drugs (68 types), insecticides (31 types), and salmonella items to ensure safety
    .

In the past, only some meats such as beef, pigs, and chickens were inspected for antimicrobials that set residue approval standards, but now we inspect all meat with a total of 66 types of antimicrobials, etc.
    , and strengthen management
    .

Veterinary drugs such as fly venom phosphorus and keto-based ibuprofen, which are newly set as allowable residue standards for animal products, are inspected, and intestinal intestines such as feces are continuously inspected (cut off, thawed).

    3.
    Aquatic products

Investigate whether aquatic products are aquaculture products, and expand the veterinary drug inspection
    of cultured aquatic products.

Check whether aquatic products have illegal weight gain, water injection (frozen shrimp meat, clam meat, octopus, etc.
    ), and false declarations
    of varieties.

Microbial (total number of colonies, E.
coli) and veterinary drug inspection (increased from 2 to 29 veterinary drugs) for processed aquatic products (frozen shrimp)
    with increased imports.
