After a bumpy ride, India is making up for lost time by accelerating wind energy bids at the national level to reach its target
of 60 GW of installed wind capacity by the end of March 2022.

SECI, the Indian solar company responsible for organising all national solar and wind tenders, has issued its seventh tender to allocate wind projects
with a cumulative capacity of 1.
    2 GW across the country.

The specifications of the tender are likely to be the same as those published in the
    past few months.
    SECI recently completed a tender
    for 1.
2 gigawatts of capacity in February.
The tender is the first wind capacity tender
    after four rounds of extensions.

In November 2017, the Indian government announced plans to complete the tender
for 28 GW of onshore wind power by March 31, 2020.
According to the original timeline, the target for March 31, 2019 was 18 GW
    .
In the space of a month, India has successfully completed 11 GW of tenders, including 8.
    45 GW conducted by SECI
    .

India has also announced a renewable energy target of 500 GW of installed capacity
    by mid-2030.
The target will include 140 GW of installed wind energy capacity
    .
To achieve this, India plans to continue with 10 GW of wind energy tenders
per year between April 2020 and March 2028.
