The relevant Indian departments issued an announcement to impose a 20% export tax
on rice in order to ensure domestic supply.
According to the announcement, starting Friday, export duties
will be imposed on hulled rice (rice or coarse), semi-polished or fully polished, whether polished or glazed (except distilled grain rice and Indian fragrant rice).

Subode Gupta, chairman of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Bilgenje, said there had been zero
export tariffs when importing rice and rice from India.
Now, there is a 20% export tariff
    .
In addition, India completely banned the export of crushed rice grains
    .
Speaking at an FNCCI news conference on Friday about India's export tariffs, Gupta said India's rice production this year was affected by insufficient rainfall in states such as West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, followed by an export tax to secure its domestic supply
    .
The FNCCI held a press conference to draw India's attention to Nepal's difficulties and to demand that the Nepalese government hold bilateral talks as soon as possible to resolve the issue
    .

Gupta said India is the second largest rice producer and rice exporter
    after China.
For many years, Nepal has been importing large quantities of rice and rice
    from India.
The imposition of export tariffs will adversely affect
    Nepal.
    Nepal imported nearly Rs.
48 billion worth of rice and rice
    in the previous fiscal year.

FNCCI officials stressed that rice and rice prices in Nepal will rise
after the introduction of export taxes.
In addition, they argue that if the decision is not reversed, some rice industries will inevitably close
    .

Gupta is also the central chairman of the Nepalese Rice, Oil and Pulses Production Association, adding that the decision will also greatly affect the liquor and livestock feed production sector
