According to data released by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) on Tuesday, German solar photovoltaic (PV) production equipment manufacturers increased sales by 31% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, but fell 48% month-on-month, and orders also fell by 51%.
Peter Fath, head of PV equipment at VDMA, said investment in upgrades and new manufacturing capacity is slowing, while also observing a decline
in equipment prices.
Despite this, orders from solar equipment manufacturers remained adequate, while in the first quarter, the order-to-delivery system ratio was 0.

.
The export ratio of German solar manufacturing equipment suppliers hit a new record
of 93% in the first quarter of 2018.
The sector with the highest sales volume by German technology suppliers during the period under review was thin-film photovoltaic equipment with 61%, followed by battery production machinery with 32%.
At the same time, new orders are increasingly interested
in PERC and Black Silicon devices because of the involvement of crystalline silicon products, Fath added.
Jutta Trube, Managing Director of PV Production Equipment at VDMA, noted that orders from Asia are now more widely distributed in some countries on the continent
.
Starting in June, China significantly reduced its support for new solar projects, which is expected to lead to a severe oversupply in the market
.
According to Jade Jones, senior solar analyst at GTM Research, solar prices will fall by 32% to 36%.
Suppliers may be forced to slow down investment
in production capacity.
