The European Commission has taken Spain to court
for improper waste management.
Improper waste management The European Commission took Spain to court
The Commission indicated that Spain had failed to establish and modify waste management plans
in the four autonomous regions, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Madrid, and the Autonomous City of Ceuta.
Spain must have the necessary plan for the entire territory by December 12, 2010, and evaluate and revise
it at least every six years.
The European Commission added that it has repeatedly called on Spain to comply with its obligations, issuing a formal notification in November 2016 and issuing a reasonable opinion
in July 2017.
"Waste management plans are a key tool
to reduce the adverse impacts of waste generation and management on human health and the environment and to move towards a circular economy," the European Commission states.
