According to a study, 1,730 megawatts could be generated through rooftop solar panels, and Hyderabad, India's sixth-largest city, could become India's solar project champion, thereby reducing air pollution
by cutting coal-based electricity, according to the Economic Times.

The study, conducted jointly by Greenpeace India and the Energy Research and Management Institute of Gujarat, shows that Hyderabad could reduce electricity demand by almost 15%
    if the target is met.

The study, which scanned the area at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, estimated an average of 2.
    70 MW
    per square kilometer.
    It can be easily generated
    by installing rooftop solar panels.
The city has a lot of important landmarks that have considerable potential
    for rooftop solar power.

According to the study, some areas with great solar roof potential include the University of Osmania (over 5,100 kW), Begumpet and Rajiv Gandhi International Airports (over 700 kW), City Railway Station (3,187 kW), Metro Station (679 kW), All Bus Stops (nearly 3,000 kW).

Telangana 11 districts and municipalities in Hyderabad were recorded to have the highest
    annual particulate matter levels.

A Greenpeace member said, "The shift to solar will not only help Hyderabad reduce air pollution and reduce its reliance on coal as a power source, but also help policymakers to India's overall target of rooftop solar to reach 40 GW
    by 2022.
