Officials from Bangladesh Submarine Cable Limited (BSCCL) said a tender for the work would be completed
in Singapore this month.
The four companies, SubCom of the United States, NEC of Japan, Alcatel Submarine Network of France and Huawei Marine of China, have expressed interest in building a third submarine cable
.
The four companies were asked to bid
this month.
The consortium will evaluate the tender
from January 6 to 16 in Singapore.
BSCCL managing director Mashiur Rahman told
the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
After the assessment, he said, the report will be presented to the board and "we will make a final decision
based on the evaluation report.

Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Djibouti, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, France, Myanmar and Yemen are members
of the consortium of SEA-ME-WE-6.
Last year, the government asked BSCCL to start preparations to establish a connection
with the third submarine link because the 20-year life of the first submarine cable would end in 2026.
BSCCL sources said that the cost of SEA-ME-WE-6 is about 6.
1 billion taka (about 490 million yuan), and the project is scheduled to end
in 2023.
Through this connection, the country will receive bandwidth
at a rate of 5 TB per second.
In early March 2019, BSCCL received proposals from two Singaporean companies, SingTel and SigMar, to build a connection
to the country's third submarine network.
The country's annual consumption is about 1.
2 TBPS, of which 670 gigabits per second are provided by BSCCL and the rest by India
.
The Bangladeshi government spent about Tk 5 billion (about 403 million yuan)
for the first submarine cable connection.
