Researchers from the Alpine Plant Diversity Research Team of the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences collected the flower lifespan data of 818 species of angiosperms around the world, and used a Bayesian phylogenetic mixed model to explore the following scientific questions: ( 1 ) The global biogeography of flower lifespan What is the layout like? ( 2 ) What factors control flower lifespan ?
Among all the angiosperms investigated, the average flower lifespan was 5 days, with the shortest being only 2 hours and the longest being 33 days, a difference of 400 tim.
This study makes up for the changing pattern of flower lifespan at the macro scale, and systematically reveals which factors affect flower lifesp.
The study was published in the international botanical journal New Phytologist under the title Global analysis of floral longevity reveals latitudinal gradients and biotic and abiotic correlates
The research was supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Pilot Project, the Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Comprehensive Scientific Expedition Research Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation of Chi.
