Dutch offshore solutions provider Tideway has laid the first offshore output cable
for the 1.
2 GW Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm owned by Ørsted.
Hornsea Project One Offshore Wind Farm lays the first offshore export cable
The Hornsea Project One wind farm will be located 120km off the Yorkshire coast and will be powered by three high-voltage undersea power cables from three offshore substations to shore
.
Tideway advised that the first part of the cable laying was being performed using Ocean Yield's cable-laying vessel "connectors
.
"
The "connector" laying ship has two large turntables with a capacity of 6000 tons and 3000 tons of cable
.
For this work, Tideway designed and installed a custom aft deck cable laying layer for the output cable project to replace the original laying system
.
Tideway's scope of work also includes cable installation, engineering, rock removal, trench pre-excavation, cable access substation, cross installation, offshore connections and cable embedding
.
Ken Swaegers, Tideway Project Manager, said: "This is a very exciting job for us and a great opportunity
to undertake the largest construction project for offshore wind.
Because of its size, we have several vessels operating
on site.
And in the summer, our own new cable-laying vessel, Living Stone, will be added
.
Living Stone will be equipped with an innovative dual-track cable mounting system consisting of two cable highways, one for laying the cable and the other for preparing the next cable at the same time, significantly improving work efficiency
.
”
Duncan Clark, Director of Hornsea Project One, said: "We are delighted that Tideway has been able to mobilize the Connector laying vessel to meet our specific requirements for this project and look forward to Living Stone coming to the site to help build this extraordinary wind farm project
.
”
When operational in 2020, Hornsea Project One will have a capacity of more than 1 GW and will be able to provide clean electricity
to more than 1 million homes.
