Recently, Hong Kong has launched the photovoltaic feed-in tariff subsidy (FIT) scheme
.
Electricity consumers can install PV systems of up to 1 MW as long as they are connected to one of the two electricity providers: the Hong Kong Power Investment Corporation, which provides electricity to Hong Kong and Lamma Island; and CLP Power Limited, which provides electricity
to Kowloon, the New Territories, Cheung Chau and Lantau Island.
Hong Kong launched the PV feed-in tariff subsidy scheme
FIT applications for areas covered by CLP are now available
through its website and app.
Successful applicants will receive the set tariff subsidy
from 1 October 2018.
For HKIC customers, application details will be announced
sometime this month.
The aim is to start the application process in September and successful applicants will receive the subsidy
from 1 January 2019.
Until 2033, investors who install photovoltaic or wind energy systems will receive stable electricity price subsidies
.
Prices will be reviewed annually, while subsidies for new installed capacity remain in line with
technology costs.
The FIT rates currently offered are: system less than 10 kW, enjoy 5 HKD/kWh; More than 10 kW less than 200 kW, 4 HKD/kWh; More than 200 kW is less than 1 MW, 3 HKD/kWh
.
Masaru Yarime, an associate professor at the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong, said Hong Kong's current total installed solar capacity is less than 5 megawatts
.
Part of the reason for the small installed capacity is the geographical limitations
of Hong Kong.
