He Zuhua's research team has made major discoveries in the mechanism of plant immunosuppression and broad-spectrum disease resistance
On September 30, 2021, the top international academic journal Cell published an online publication entitled "Ca 2+Sensor-Mediated ROS Scavenging Suppresses Rice Immunity and Is Exploited " by the He Zuhua research team of the State Key Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics and researchers at home and abroad.
As the main food source for nearly half of the world’s population, the yield and quality of rice are severely affected by various pathogens
Through large-scale screening of rice resource banks and breeding populations, the research group identified a recessive genetically stable material with high resistance to saprophytic fungal disease, sheath blight, and named it rod1(resistance of rice to diseases 1)
Furthermore, they analyzed the genome sequences of different rice cultivars and farm species and found that there is a single nucleotide polymorphism in the coding sequence of ROD1, which leads to changes in functional amino acids
In summary, the study revealed a plant-pathogen co-evolution model mediated by a plant immunosuppressive signal pathway with ROD1 as the core and a three-dimensional protein structure simulation (structural mimicry)
The paper is by Gao Mingjun, He Yang, Yin Xin and Zhong Xiangbin as the co-first authors, and researcher He Zuhua, researcher Yang Weibing and Dr.
