The mainland now only has testing standards for dioxins, but no limit standards for dioxins in food
The Centre for Food Safety of the Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department recently announced that the total content of 2 types of dioxins and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) in five types of hairy crab samples sampled in late September 2016 exceeded 6.
The mainland hairy crab dioxin super standard inspected by Hong Kong refers to the standards of the World Health Organization, not the standards of the mainland or Hong Kong.
Although dioxins and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls have been listed as "known human carcinogens" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, there is currently no limit standard for food in mainland China and Hong Kong, let alone soil pollutants.
An important question in this incident is whether there are any omissions in the detection of dioxins in food in the mainland
However, the response still did not indicate whether the relevant authorities had tested the hairy crabs of the two companies for dioxins
The question now is that the dioxin content of the hairy crabs exported from Taihu Lake detected in Hong Kong exceeds the international standard.
In addition, it is necessary to promote China to establish its own limit standards for dioxins in food, so as to detect the content of dioxins in food more effectively and conveniently, and timely exclude unqualified food that may endanger the health and life of the people.
