Hyderabad-based Greenko Energies has received state approval for a huge renewable energy project involving 1GW of solar, 550MW of wind and 1.
2GW of pumped energy storage in
    Andhra Pradesh, India.

India also plans to build a 500MW pumped storage plant in Tamil Nadu, while THDC, a central government-run entity, is studying a 1GW pumped storage project in Uttarakhand, at the Tehri Dam Reservoir, which will be one of the tallest dams in the world, revealed the director of
energy finance research in Australia at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA).

According to recent government data, India's solar deployment is close to 24GW, and it has a multi-gigawatt bidding pipeline, which should continue to accelerate PV deployment in the coming years, so grid balancing
    needs to be watched.
India is also working on green energy corridors to transmit resource-rich renewable energy to areas with higher demand for electricity, reducing pressure
    on the grid.

Kurnool, where Greenko's project is located, is already home
    to a 1GW solar park.
According to consultancy Bridge to India's latest solar map, Greenko ranked seventh
    among solar projects in FY2017/18.
