Ghana's Eastern Corridor submarine cable system is in its final stages of deployment, after which a 165-kilometre extension will be built to connect the Accra and Ho areas
.
The Ghana Eastern Corridor submarine cable system was built in 2008 with a €38 million grant from the Danish International Development Agency to create a domestic data center and a single communications infrastructure system
that connects all utilities.
Ghana's Minister of Communications, Ersula Owusu Ekuful, said: "Without a robust fibre optic network, the cost of providing telecommunications services to remote areas of the country is too high, and providing high-speed internet services to urban areas will be empty talk
.
Therefore, the government must build an effective fiber loop system to extend services to all communities
along the route.
This is why the Eastern Corridor submarine cable project was born
.
”
The final phase of deployment of the project is the completion of the final kilometer connection
.
Once completed, a 165-kilometre extension line will be built to connect major towns in the country to the new fibre optic backbone
.
It is reported that Alcatel-Lucent, acquired by Nokia, is responsible for the construction of
the submarine cable project.
In addition to connecting all public institutions, the project will improve connectivity and promote the government's
e-health, e-education, e-commerce, digital finance and other fields.
