Recently, German Chancellor Scholz signed a bilateral solidarity statement with visiting French Prime Minister Bornet in Berlin, stressing the need for the two countries to cooperate closely in the field of energy and support
each other in energy security.
In order to reduce its dependence on Russian energy, France has delivered up to 100 GWh (about 948 million standard cubic meters) of natural gas per day to Germany since mid-October, and the two sides will sign a cooperation agreement
on the gas supply mechanism in the first quarter of next year, the statement said.
At the same time, in order to ensure France's electricity supply this winter, Germany has pledged to do its best to ensure the interconnection of the two countries' power grids, and postponed the retirement of Germany's remaining nuclear power plants until April next year in order to provide additional supplies
to the French electricity market.
The statement said that Germany and France respect each other's choice of technical route for power supply structure and will strengthen cooperation
in the development of hydrogen energy infrastructure and other fields.
Scholz and Bornet said at a press conference on the same day that in addition to energy policy, Germany and France hope to jointly seek breakthroughs on many other European issues, and the two countries will continue to deepen bilateral relations
