As part of a consortium to build Poland's last coal-fired power plant, GE Power may subcontract the power plant project to Polish manufacturers Rafako and Polimex-Mostostal
, with which it previously cooperated, Reuters reported.
In April, GE Power, along with Alstom Power, won a tender for a 1,000-megawatt plant built by Polish utility Energa and Enea in Ostroleka, northeastern Poland, for PLN 6 billion ($1.
68 billion).
The consortium of Polimex-Mostostal and Rafako failed to win the bid for PLN 9.
59 billion, while the China Power Engineering Consulting Group offered a contract
of PLN 4.
85 billion.
Michael Keroulle, GE Power's Chief Commercial Officer, said, "We are considering partnering with Rafako and Polimex-Mostostal, but we have not yet started any discussions with GE Power and are absolutely interested in exploring Ostroleka's options with the company, subject to the completion of the tender process
.
”
It's unclear when Enea and Energa will sign the deal
.
The utility sector aims to take advantage of the EU's February approval of a standby power capacity scheme because banks have been reluctant to finance coal-fired power plants
.
Mr.
Keroulle said: "The project will need to be for some time before the end of this year and we expect to sign the contract
with Energa and Enea within a month or a month and a half.
