FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures), a leading global developer of renewable utility-scale projects, announced that it has secured a 55 MW solar project to develop its first solar project
in Armenia.
The tender was conducted by the Armenian Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund, which will continue to expand in the region, where the quality of solar resources has great
potential.
The Masrik-1 solar power plant, located near Metz Masrik and Vardenis in Gegharkunik province, is part of Armenia's
state program for renewable energy development.
The plant has an area of about 100 hectares, a total area equivalent to 150 football fields
.
In addition, it will provide enough energy for 21,400 households while reducing about 54,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere per year, which is equivalent to reducing the number of cars on Armenian roads by more than 20,000
.
Construction of the plant will begin in early 2019 and is expected to be operational
by the end of 2020.
It will also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region, as FRV is expected to create 300 jobs
during the plant construction phase.
FRV's Managing Director Middle East and Africa highlighted the importance of
Armenia in the company's expansion goals.
"Armenia's growing drive to boost renewable energy is a decisive factor in its commitment to the country, as it offers a wealth of opportunities
to carry out clean energy projects," he said.
With this award, we achieve two goals – to continue to lead the industry, contribute to a sustainable future, and create wealth and jobs
for green energy in the regions in which we operate.
