On December 14, 2021, Fei Sun’s group at the State Key Laboratory of Biomacromolecules, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Mingqiang Qiao’s group at the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Nankai University , published a topic in the journal Nature Communications .
In recent years, due to continuous breakthroughs in hardware and image processing algorithms, cryo-electron microscopy single particle technology has become one of the main research methods for studying the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecule complexes, and has reached the level of atomic resolution
Fungal hydrophobin is a type of small molecular weight protein (7-15kDa) secreted by higher filamentous fungi.

In this study, the researchers used the continuous two-dimensional crystal film formed by the self-assembly of hydrophobin HFBI to cover the microporous array amorphous nickel-titanium alloy film carrier net (Figure 2) for cryo-electron microscopy sample preparation

The research work was completed by the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nankai University.
Finally, the research results have been applied for a Chinese invention patent (application number CN202110576212.
