(NDO) Compared with other free trade agreements, Japan ’s commitment to Vietnam ’s aquatic products in theComprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is more open, which is a smooth condition for Vietnam to take full advantage .

In addition to the Vietnam-Japan Bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement, the two countries are also members of the CPTPP and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), said Nguyen Manh Tong, the third secretary of the Commercial Section of the Vietnamese Embassy in Jap.
It helps Vietnam's aquatic products have the opportunity to increase the export value to this mark.

Among the various FTAs implemented, Japan has a relatively high degree of openness in its commitment to the aquatic product sector in the CPT.
Specifically, after the agreement takes effect, Japan will give Vietnam zero tariffs on 65% of the tax items; Cut tariffs on remaining tax lin.
The agreement is even more open than the Vietnam-Japan bilateral economic partnership agreement, as Japan has also eliminated tax items that they did not commit in the Vietnam-Japan bilateral economic partnership agreeme.

Another advantage is that the CPTPP accepts the accumulation-of-origin rule, which means that Vietnamese companies can import raw materials from the 11 members of the agreement and export to Japan while still enjoying preferential tarif.

Currently, Japan is the third largest export market for Vietnamese aquatic produc.
In the first five months of this year, the export value of aquatic products to Japan reached more than 638 million US dollars, accounting for 16% of the total export value of the aquatic indust.

Although the CPTPP has opened the door for Vietnamese aquatic products to be exported to Japan, Japan is the most "harsh" market in the world, and compliance with the country's regulations is a must for Vietnamese aquatic products to gain a firm foothold in this mark.

The representative of Vietnam’s Commercial Office in Japan said that enterprises should pay special attention to regulations on food safety and hygiene, and antibiotic residues in aquatic products, in order to safeguard the interests of enterprises and protect the image of Vietnam’s aquaculture indust.
