According to a report by the South African Witness news website on August 9, South African citrus growers said that the European Union's cold storage requirements for their exports have no reliable basi.
The European Union requires extreme refrigeration of citrus exports from South Africa to prevent false codling moth infestation.
The South African Citrus Growers Association says the industry's contribution to South Africa has grown from R8 billion in 2014 to R30 billion last yea.
The South African government has lodged a trade dispute with the World Trade Organization against the EU mov.
Hendrik Warnich, director of Western Cape citrus farm ALG Estates, said the industry has put strict controls on citrus export.
