    Agritel forecasts French wheat production in 2022 at 33 million tons, down from 35 million in 2021; wheat yields at 8 tons/ha, down from 12 tons/ha in 2021 and 7% below the 10-year average; sown area at 490 million hectar.
     
    Agritel expects French wheat exports to third countries to increase to 15 million tonnes in 2022/23, up from 25 million tonnes in 2021/22, as domestic use is reduced due to lower domestic livestock stoc.
    But the reduction in wheat production will prevent France from increasing exports more significant.
     
    On May 12, FranceAgriMer lowered its forecast for French soft wheat exports to third countries in 2021/22 by 250,000 tons, from 5 million in April to 25 million, due to weaker overseas dema.
    French wheat exports to EU member states were also lowered to 8 million tonnes from 1 million tonnes, while warnings that rains are urgently needed to avoid damage to cereal crops ahead of this summer's harve.

    Milling wheat exports from the port of Rouen doubled to 115,200 tonnes in the week to May 25, as exports to Algeria and Egypt rose, up from 54,500 tonnes the previous week, data from French port operator Haropa show.
    Last week, 60,350 t were shipped to Algeria and 47,500 t to Egy.
    In addition, 4,000 tons were shipped to Ireland and 3,400 tons to the Netherlan.
     
    Investment funds and financial institutions were net long 184,315 contracts in Euronext milling wheat futures and options markets as of May 20, down from 186,215 contracts a week earlier, Euronext holdings data show.
