A few days ago, the European Union has approved the acquisition of General Cable
by Prysmian Group of Italy.
EU approves Prysmian acquisition of General Cable
Both companies are actively involved in the development, manufacture and supply
of cables for the energy and telecommunications industries.
The EU investigated the overlapping activities of the two sides in fibre optics, general cabling and cables of different voltages, including submarine and underground applications
.
The EU believes that the proposed acquisition will not attract competitive attention, as some strong competitors will remain in the market after the
transaction.
In March, Prysmian said the waiting period for the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvement Act applicable to the proposed acquisition of General Cable would expire
on March 7, 2018.
This means that the deal has been approved
by the US antitrust agency.
Recently, General Cable also said in its first-quarter earnings report that the regulatory approval process related to Prysmian's merger is progressing, and the merger is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018, but may receive the remaining regulatory approvals and meet other conditions
