EOS North America and Additive Minds have announced the launch of their digital foam program to support 3D printing applications such as protective headwear and functional footwear
.
Coordinated by EOS, the digital foam program brings together Additive Mind's CAD software, highly flexible polymer materials, 3D printing technology, part qualification and application engineering teams
.
Products such as football helmets, bike seats, running shoes, and custom orthotics have become simpler to produce as the materials available to users for 3D printing technology become more flexible (such as TPU and PEBA)
.
Using 3D printing for such components allows designers to fine-tune each voxel to enhance comfort, fit and performance
.
Dr.
Greg Hayes, Senior Vice President, Applications Engineering, EOS North America, said: “The level of engineering required to produce a safer football helmet is high
.
“What Aetrex is doing is a good illustration of the digital foam initiative to make 3D printed foam mainstream in the age of digital manufacturing
.
Software company nTopology has been named a partner of the Digital Bubble Initiative, simplifying engineering design, analysis and build preparation for users with its nTop platform
.
EOS and its partner organizations will utilize the Digital Foam program to submit entries to the NFL Helmet Challenge, a competition to produce football helmets that are better than today's models
.
