French power giant Engie and investment firm Meridiamond have jointly secured two solar projects totaling 60MW(AC) in Senegal, setting a new record
for low prices.
Senegal's Electricity Sector Regulatory Commission (CRSE) has announced the results of
a tender under the World Bank-backed Scaling Solar program.
CRSE has received 14 bids from 8 out of 13 qualified bidders
.
The award-winning solar farm in Kahone will be charged a tariff of ¢3.
80/kWh, while the other plant in Touba will have a tariff of ¢3.
98/kWh
.
A report published by the Scaling solar website said the result was a "major breakthrough" that reduced prices to 60 percent from Senegal's
previous lowest tariffs.
"This demonstrates Scaling Solar's innovative approach to bringing investors and governments together in a transparent, streamlined and competitive way to successfully close a deal that provides clean and affordable energy
to Africa," the statement said.

Last year, Engie and Meridiamond also launched a 30MW project

its "Scaling Solar" program.
