Sinochem News, World Energy, March 8: Egypt on March 7 unveiled a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to assess the country’s low-carbon hydrogen production, which is expected to boost the country’s hydrogen economy
.
The memorandum, signed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will support Egypt in realizing its renewable energy potential by producing solar energy on a large scale and then converting it into hydrogen
.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources will explore a framework for assessing the potential of low-carbon hydrogen supply chains
.
The assessment will include mapping current and future expected international hydrogen market supply and demand, analysing existing and potential hydrogen production in Egypt, and assessing the storage, conversion and transport of hydrogen and its derivatives
.
Among other things, it will provide guidance on the country's low-carbon hydrogen strategy, promoting the sustainable development of hydrogen as a decarbonized fuel to mitigate climate change, while ensuring cost-effectiveness and identifying potential areas of investment
.
"We are very proud to be contributing to Egypt's future national low-carbon hydrogen strategy, which is in line with the bank's commitment to mitigating climate change in its investment areas," said Mark Bowman, EBRD's Vice President for Policy
.
“The Bank has been strongly supporting renewable energy development in Egypt, providing policy advice, technical assistance and financing
.
Our goal is to support the country in reaching another milestone
