These initiatives aim at the vision
of developing Egypt as a power interconnection point between Africa and Europe.
Egypt's Minister of Electricity, Mohamed Shaker, signed a memorandum of understanding
with Greece and Cyprus on electricity connectivity at the ninth Trilateral Summit in Athens in October 2021.
A month later, Tareq el Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Konstantinos Skrekas, Greece's Minister of Environment and Energy, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation
between the two countries in the gas sector.
The MoU covers three priority areas of cooperation, including LNG trade, related research and exploration activities, and the physical connection of the gas pipeline networks of the two countries, with the potential to expand these areas
in the future, the Ministry of Oil said in a statement.
The agreement also outlines a framework that will encourage energy companies and institutions in both countries to collaborate with each other and begin implementing projects
locally.
