DSM (DSM) has announced a partnership with Chromatic 3D Materials and Germany's RepRap, in which the three parties will work together to facilitate the production of 3D printed polyurethane parts
.
This represents an expansion of the collaboration between DSM and Chromatics that began last year, focusing on thermoset materials for the additive manufacturing market
.
The partners will introduce German RepRap and its extrusion-based 3D printing equipment, and will promote Chromatic's FlexTune series of high-performance flexible polyurethane elastomer materials globally
.
Hugo da Silva, Vice President of Additive Manufacturing at DSM, said: “Many high-performance parts require a certain level of flexibility in their day-to-day use
.
Cora Leiberg, CEO of Chromatic 3D Materials, added: “Elastomers are no longer just for prototyping, but durable enough to withstand the rigors of functional materials in commercial applications.
DSM’s market knowledge, the advanced printing capabilities of RepRap in Germany, and Chromatic Collaboration on the ability of our thermosets to adapt to additive manufacturing is an exciting leap forward for an industry we are proud of
.
Meanwhile, DSM also recently announced a partnership with Shapeways, which hopes to combine the materials and digital manufacturing expertise of the two companies to enable on-demand 3D printing
.
Greg Kress, CEO of Shapeways, said: “Shapeways believes that additive manufacturing and the ability to simplify product development can improve material scalability and greatly enhance traditional manufacturing solutions
.
