On November 16, Deutsche Bahn Chief Purchasing Officer Wu Wei Günther said at a press conference in Berlin that DB intends to expand its international supplier network, adding that Chinese suppliers have the strength to compete with European counterparts and can provide DB with high-quality high-speed rail products
.
He said purchasing complete vehicles or locomotives from China's high-speed rail was a "possible option"
for DB in a few years.
However, before that, China's high-speed rail equipment needs to be approved
by relevant European and German authorities.
Germany's rail market is not small
.
Günter said DB will spend an average of about 10 billion euros
per year on procurement over the next five years.
However, less than 10% of DB suppliers are currently sourced from outside Germany, and DB plans to increase this to 20%
within the next five years.
"We want to look for suppliers around the world, especially the large orders that we may place in the past few years, such as locomotives and high-speed rail," Günter said
.
Michael Bobak, head of DB International Procurement Office, said DB has a very large demand for railway vehicle parts and infrastructure products such as rails and signaling systems, and currently plans to purchase these two types of products
in China.
He revealed that after preliminary contact, DB included about 40 Chinese companies such as CRRC and Taiyuan Heavy Industry as potential suppliers
