At present, the bacteriological indicators of water quality and sanitation are mainly based on the coliform count index and the value of coliform bacteria.

The Limulus test method can detect as low as 100 Gram-negative bacteria per ml and is therefore an extremely sensitive method

Diluzio has measured 16 samples from 18 drinking water samples collected from 8 cities to contain endotoxin, and the endotoxin in individual tap water can reach 800μg/ml

Limulus test can be carried out in general water sources without dilution.
