On the 17th local time, the global daily chemical giant-Procter & Gamble announced that it is voluntarily recalling a variety of spray-type cleaning products of four brands including Pantene produced in the United States due to the detection of the carcinogen benzene
.
The recalled products include some dry-hair sprays from Pantene, Phyto-Philosophy, Aussie Kangaroo and Waterless
.
It is reported that the Pantene, Plant Sense Philosophy, Australian Silk Kangaroo and other brands involved are all sold in China
.
In response to the recall, Procter & Gamble said in its announcement that benzene was not an ingredient in any of the spray products, but that they recently detected "unexpected levels of benzene" after the product was sprayed from the bottle
.
Benzene is an organic compound that can cause cancer when humans and animals come into contact with benzene through breathing, oral intake and skin.
It is listed as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer
.
According to CCTV Finance, the relevant person in charge of P&G China responded that the recall only involves some dry hair spray products in North America, not the Chinese market
.
All products sold in the Chinese market meet relevant national standards
.
