The Neuroimmunology Laboratory of the Institute of Experimental Medicine (IEM) in Budapest, Hungary, led by ádám Dénes, described the presence of sites of direct interaction between microglia and developing neuronal cell bodies and revealed their role
in brain development.
The scientific community knows that microglia are the main immune cells of the central nervous system and the main regulators of inflammatory processes in the
brain.
Among the members of the research group of ádám Dénes, Csaba Cserép and his student Dóra Anett Schwarcz played a prominent role in the implementation of the research program and further contributed to István Katona's research group
at IEM.
Other authors include Balázs Pósfai, Zsófia I.
