Clariant has launched its new Vita 100% bio-based surfactant and polyethylene glycol (PEG) to combat climate change by helping to remove fossil carbon from the value chain
.
As our climate signals us more and more alarming changes, individuals and industries are finding ways to reduce their environmental footprint, and the demand for bio-based chemicals will grow strongly in the years ahead
.
Clariant is committed to facilitating the transition to a more sustainable bioeconomy and has an increasing number of bio-based products and processing aids in its portfolio
.
The introduction of 100% bio-based surfactants and PEG significantly expands Clariant's Vita designation
.
Vita products are based on renewable feedstocks and have a Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) of at least 98%
.
This is just one example of its commitment to delivering low carbon footprint solutions for customers and the larger chemistry between people and planet
.
“From packaging to many ingredients, typical consumer products in coatings, personal care, home care, industrial and agricultural applications still use petrochemicals and therefore fossil carbon,” said Christian Vang, Global Head of Clariant’s Industrial and Consumer Goods business unit.
The move to bio-based carbon chemistry remains a huge challenge for manufacturers, and with the introduction of the Vita surfactant and PEG range, we provide them with an important new solution to achieve this goal
.
"
The new Vita products are designed for natural formulations targeting high Renewable Carbon Index (RCI), enabling manufacturers to maximize bio-based formulations for consumer products such as detergents, shampoos and body washes, paints, industrial lubricants and crop formulations carbon content
.
Clariant manufactures ethylene oxide for its innovative new surfactants and PEGs using 100% bioethanol derived from sugar cane or corn
.
Since only bio-based feedstocks are used, the carbon footprint of these ingredients is significantly lower than fossil-based feedstocks
.
Vita surfactants save CO2 emissions: they can help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85% compared to their fossil analogues
.
Importantly, in addition to setting the bar for greener production, these new solutions are chemically equivalent to Clariant's version, offering formulators and brand owners the same performance and efficiency
.
Customers can currently benefit from more than 70 bio-based products, and the range will continue to expand to meet changing market demands
.
In the first quarter of 2022, Clariant's joint venture, Clariant IGL Specialty Chemicals (CISC), will supply two thousand tons of bio-based surfactants and PEG to the global business unit
.
