In a study published in Cell Reports Medicine

Androgens sustain the development of prostate cancer

In this study, a research team led by Li Zhenfei from the Center of Excellence for Molecular and Cell Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences studied the metabolomic alterations in patients with abilone resistance and found that one metabolite, progesterone, was significantly increased

They also looked at the metabolic pathways of progesterone

Based on the tumorigenic effect of progesterone, plasma progesterone levels were inversely correlated with duration of abiraterone treatment

Taken together, the results of this study suggest that chickpea A inhibits 3bHSD1, thereby eliminating the tumorigenic effect of progesterone and inhibiting the development of prostate cancer

Wu Denglong's team at Tongji Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University and Tang Huiru's team at Fudan University also participated in the study
