Chile's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) and the Latin American Development Bank signed a $3 million technical cooperation agreement to finance
feasibility studies for submarine cable projects linking Asia and South America.
The study will provide technical, legal, financial and economic norms
for the construction of submarine cables between two continents.
The proposed submarine cable system is approximately 24,000 km long, and its initial design includes 4-8 fiber pairs, with transmission capacities between 10Tbps and 20Tbps, with a total value of US$650 million
.
Pamela Gidi, Chile's deputy minister of transport and telecommunications, revealed that regardless of the outcome of the feasibility study, the government will take the necessary measures to ensure that part of the route passes through Easter Island
.
At present, enterprises interested in participating in the feasibility study of the project can consult the bidding rules from July 15 to 26, and the relevant departments will respond before August 1, the bidding deadline is August 16, and the bidding results will be announced and the relevant contracts
will be signed on September 2.
It is reported that the study will be divided into three deadlines, November 4, 2019, December 27, 2019 and June 24, 2020
.
