According to news from Axis Energy on October 12, Spanish oil and gas group Cepsa signed an agreement with the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands to ship green hydrogen
from southern Spain to northern Europe.
"Cepsa and the Port of Rotterdam will work together to establish the first green hydrogen corridor between Southern and Northern Europe, securing a green hydrogen supply chain
between two major European ports, Rotterdam and Algeciras," Cepsa said in a press release.
”
The hydrogen will be produced at Cepsa's San Roque Energy Industrial Park near the Gulf of Algeciras and will be exported to the Port
of Rotterdam via hydrogen carriers such as ammonia or methanol.
The trade lane is expected to be operational
in 2027.
In contrast, the first supply channel of the European Hydrogen Backbone (a plan developed by gas transmission operators for the transportation of hydrogen pipelines) will be completed
in 2030.
