Recently, Spanish energy and petrochemical giant Cepsa said that it is working with the Port of Rotterdam to develop a renewable hydrogen supply chain from Spain to the Netherlands to supply green hydrogen
to the Netherlands.
Under a memorandum of understanding signed between Cepsa and the Port of Rotterdam, Cepsa will export green hydrogen produced at the San Roque plant near Algeciras, Spain, in the form of ammonia or methanol to Rotterdam
, the Netherlands.
The supply of green fuels will help decarbonize industry and maritime transport in Algeciras and Rotterdam, which are expected to start operations
in 2027, the companies said.
In addition, Cepsa hopes to develop a similar supply chain
at La Rabida Energy Industrial Park in Huelva.
The company aims to achieve 2 GW of renewable hydrogen capacity by 2030 and plans to develop 7 GW of renewable power generation capacity to support it
.
Cepsa said the Andalusian region's energy parks have some of the most competitive renewable energy sources in Europe, and their electricity price advantage means Spain is well positioned
as a potential green hydrogen exporter.
