Cabo Verde Telecom (CVTelecom) and EllaLink have signed an agreement to provide connectivity
to Cape Verde from Europe and Latin America through the submarine cable EllaLink.
Alfonso Gajate, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EllaLink, noted: "This agreement with Cabo Verde Telecom is the basis for this project and allows us to move forward and start building the EllaLink submarine cable system
.
Cabo Verde's $25 million investment in EllaLink marks an important strategic decision for the country that will contribute to the development of
its social and economic vision.
”
It is reported that Cabo Verde's initial capacity to connect to Europe and Latin America is 200Gbps, which will allow Cabo Verde Telecom to create a high-capacity information platform
in the Atlantic.
According to current plans, EllaLink will achieve 72Tbps connectivity
between the two continents.
The 10,119-kilometer-long EllaLink will land in Sines in Portugal and Praia Grande near São Paulo, Brazil, and travel to Fortaleza, Brazil, Madeira and Cape Verde in
Brazil, respectively.
The system will be deployed by Nokia's Alcatel Subsea Network (ASN) and is scheduled to be operational
in 2020.
