February 14, the he Jian banking team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University published a commentary article on the clinical characteristics of cancer patients infected with the new coronavirus in China in The Lancet-Oncology.
article notes that cancer patients are more susceptible to infection than people without cancer because malignant tumors and anti-cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or surgery, leave them immunosuppressive throughout their bodies. As a result, cancer patients may have a higher risk of neo-coronary pneumonia and a poor prognostic prognostic.
, the study collected and analyzed 2007 cases in 575 hospitals in 31 provinces and municipalities. All provincial and municipal cases were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed neo-crown pneumonia. The team excluded 417 patients who lacked previous medical records. Of the 1590 cases of neo-crown pneumonia in the group, 18 had a history of cancer, of which lung cancer was the most common, with a total of 5 cases.
of the 18 cases of neo-coronary pneumonia, 4 received chemotherapy or surgery in the past month, 12 were cancer survivors who were routinely followed after a first-stage excision, and two were not clear about treatment status.
Researchers recommend that for stable cancers, consideration should be given to postponing complementary chemotherapy or optional surgery in affected areas, strengthening personal protection for cancer patients and cancer survivors, and enhancing surveillance or treatment when cancer patients become infected with new coronavirus, especially in elderly or other combined patients.
