The Brazilian Solar Energy Association said that the cumulative installed capacity of domestic solar photovoltaic power generation is expected to reach 2 GW by the end of this year, which has reached the 1.
1 GW mark, and there are enough projects to build this year to meet the target
.
In April, the International Renewable Energy Agency released its 2018 renewable capacity statistics, which show that Brazil had already installed 1 GW of solar power in 2017, a tenfold
increase from 2016.
According to the Brazilian Solar Energy Association, Brazil has more than 27,000 distributed solar power facilities in the country with an installed capacity of 320 MW, an increase of 270% compared to 2016 and 304% in 2017, and the Brazilian Solar Energy Association expects distributed solar energy to grow by 358%
in 2018.
This leads to the question, should we be confident in the Brazilian Solar Energy Association's forecast?
According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) analyst Helena Chung, a Brazilian analyst, "Yes! BNEF is also expecting Brazil to install around 1 GW of solar PV this year, in part due to the implementation of
a federal tender program.
”
Going forward, federal tenders will continue to determine the size
of installations each year.
"There will be a slowdown between 2019-20 as Brazil did not hold any tenders in a two-year period (2016-17), which will affect future installations
in the near future.
" Chung added
.
"However, due to recent tenders (December 17, 2017, and April 18, 2018), solar installations may return
by 2021-22.
